ehomr This thread is locked. I plugged a headset cable into the empty jack during the setup process and Media Center finally recognized the IR Device and allowed me to proceed with the configuration.
Using different ports makes no difference, I have even tried it on 3 different computers.

And to add to that, mine is connected to an old powered genuine usb2 hub and just as jachin99 describes perfectly, its setup that when PC goes to sleep or hibernate, the hub remains powered and is not usbvir cut off from power.
I would go to the manufacturer of the reader, since its external I assume you purchased it after-market.
